I really tried to come up with a catchy title for this blog, like “Light Bulbs are a Bright Idea for Your Listing!”, or “Let Light Bulbs Shine on Your House Sale!”. I even used a worn-out cliche in “Not the Brightest Bulb on the Housing Market!”. But the bottom line and the main message of this article is that light bulbs can have a serious impact on your home sale!
We see a lot of homes. It’s the nature of our business. And we have a pet peeve. Many home sellers will do all kinds of things to clean up and fix up their homes to sell. They will even spend hoards of money to hopefully milk every dollar out of the sale. But many miss one small detail. They don’t replace light bulbs that have burnt out.
My wife, Devona, is obsessive compulsive about replacing light bulbs in our own house. She’s dangerously short! She can’t do it. So I am the official light bulb changer. Countless times she has chased me down and insisted I replace a light bulb that’s burnt out.
This isn’t a priority only when we have company coming over, or when she is cleaning the home. A dead light bulb drives her crazy! But her interior illumination OCD keeps our digs from feeling worn out or unwelcoming.
It’s true. Proper lighting can make a space. But isn’t it true with anything? Think about it; when you go to a car dealer isn’t the showroom all lit up? When you gaze into a jewelry case at a diamond retailer, they light up those stones as bright as they can. A movie with improper lighting can ruin the rest of the film!
So please, replace any burnt out or dim bulbs. I know they’ve gone up a bit over the last few years and certain laws and regulations have demanded cost-efficient alternative as well. But if you want to maximize your home sale, make sure every light bulb is blazing when you show your home! Or as Devona says “Turn the Lights on Your Home Sale!”
